Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trips depart Cairns every day of the week (except Tuesday) and last 3 days and 2 nights. You can participate in up to 11 certified dives, including 2 night dives. Pro Dive’s Cairns liveaboard dive trips have inclusive pricing, covering accommodation transfers from city and northern beaches, cruise to and from Cairns to the Great Barrier Reef, dive insurance, all dive and snorkelling equipment, meals, double or twin share accommodation on the boat, as well as a guided orientation and night dive.
Pro Dive Cairns has access to 19 dive sites, on 4 different reefs, all of which are a part of the Great Barrier Reef. Their liveaboard dive trips only visit Cairns’ outer Great Barrier Reef. Pro Dive will choose the best sites to maximise your in-water experience at the time of travel, pending tides and currents. Please note Pro Dive Cairns is a dive boat. Reef sites are chosen for suitability for scuba divers. While snorkelers are welcome to travel with diving companions, if you / your group are snorkelers only, then we recommend a different Cairns liveaboard reef tour.

As such, when you are booking a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip you will be on the boat with other certified divers and dive students (Open Water, Advanced etc). There may be some snorkelers on the boat, travelling with diving companions, but this boat is not best suited to snorkelers. You will be at sea for 3 days and 2 nights. The boats take a maximum of 32 passengers, accommodated in 14 x twin cabins and 2 x double bed cabins with shared bathroom facilities.
Certified divers can participate in up to 11 dives on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip, this includes 9 day dives and 2 night dives. You will do 3 day dives on day 1 and 1 night dive. You will do 3 day dives on day 2, including an early morning dive before breakfast, and 1 night dive. You will do 3 day dives on day 3, including an early morning dive before breakfast and 2 dives before lunch. You do not have to participate in all of the dives, but all 11 are included in the tour price; there is no discount provided if you do less dives.
All scuba diving on Pro Dive’s Cairns liveaboard dive trip is unguided (unless you are doing a dive course with Pro Dive), except for an orientation dive at the start and one night dive. The dive depth is generally between 10-25 metres and all dive sites are suitable for those with Open Water certification and above. Diving is done in buddy pairs, if you are not travelling with your dive buddy, one will be allocated to you on the boat. Water entry is giant stride. All dive equipment and dive site briefings are included in the tour price. You will be required to show proof of your dive certification.
Pro Dive Cairns has 3 boats – ScubaPro I, II and III – all of which have the same design. They are monohull vessels, designed and built to comfortably provide dive training and liveaboard dive trips, from Cairns to the Great Barrier Reef. They take a maximum of 32 passengers per trip each. They have 3 decks and 8 shared bathroom / shower facilities across the boat, with air conditioned interiors and exterior sun decks. Pro Dive Cairns’ ScubaPro boats have a cruising speed of 12 knots. They are 23.95m long x 7.35m wide.
The accommodation on Pro Dive’s Cairns liveaboard dive trips is in twin share and double cabins. The maximum number of guests in each cabin is 2 people. All the cabins are air conditioned. None of the cabins have ensuite facilities, but there are 8 shared bathroom / shower facilities across the boat. Bed linen and pillows are provided, but you should bring your own towels. Each cabin has twin 240v power outlets to charge devices. When you’re not in your cabin, you’re welcome to relax in the air conditioned saloon area or on the external decks, including the top sundeck.
Pro Dive’s ScubaPro boats have 2 x double bed cabins, which are allocated on a first in best dressed basis.
There are 14 x twin share bunk bed cabins.
Pro Dive Cairns has access to 19 dive sites, located on 4 separate reefs, on Cairns’ outer Great Barrier Reef. The reefs they visit may include Pellowe Reef, Milln Reef, Thetford Reef or Flynn Reef. On each trip you will generally dive on around 6 different reef sites*. The night dive locations are usually at the same site as the last dive for the day, so you are already familiar with it. Which specific reef sites and reefs you will visit on your Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip, will be determined by the prevailing weather conditions, tides and currents. *Please note this is not guaranteed, plans may change pending weather.
All meals are included in the Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive tour price. Meals are freshly prepared and served buffet style, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can be assured there will be plenty of fruit, salads and breads to accompany your meal, with a variety of dishes served across the 3 day / 2 night trip. There is unlimited tea, coffee and milo provided and included in the tour price, as well as chilled water to refill personal drink bottles. There is no bottled water kept on board. Soft drinks, juice and snacks (chocolate bars etc) are available to purchase at additional cost to the tour price. [NB: Any purchases made during the trip will be paid for at the retail shop at the end of the trip.] Pro Dive Cairns do not serve or provide alcohol. If you would like to drink in the evening at the completion of all diving, then you are welcome to bring our own alcoholic beverages with you. Please note alcohol can only be consumed at the conclusion of diving for the day. You can NOT drink and then dive. Once you have had an alcoholic beverage, you will not be permitted to enter the water again until the following day.
Pro Dive Cairns use cooks not chefs, and as such any specific dietary intolerances and allergies requiring food substitution can be ‘tricky’. Pro Dive Cairns will have gluten free bread and pasta on board, as well as soy milk. If you are vegan or gluten free, it is recommended that you take your own snacks which don’t require refrigeration (refrigerator space is limited on the boat). Dietary requirements should be communicated with the reservations team, prior to travel.
When coming on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip you should bring all of your clothing and swimwear (including warm clothes for the evening), 2 x towels (ocean and shower), a hat, sunscreen and toiletries, your dive certification card, seasickness medication, personal drink bottle and any alcoholic beverages you want to drink. As above, if you are vegan or gluten intolerant, Pro Dive Cairns recommend bringing your own snacks that do not require refrigeration.
Sleeping bags, pillows, extra luggage (can be safely stored at the Pro Dive retail store in Cairns during your trip). Extra shoes. You will not be wearing shoes on the boat.
Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trips have an early start on day 1, with accommodation pick-ups commencing from 6am. If you are not using the transfers, then you will be checking in at the Pro Dive Cairns retail shop, which is located on the corner of Grafton and Shields Street, in Cairns city. All guests need to check in at the retail shop to complete the necessary paperwork, before being transferred to their boat, which is moored at Cairns’ Marlin Marina.
You need to check in at the Pro Dive Cairns Retail Shop at 6.20am. There are complimentary accommodation transfers provided and included, or you can self-drive. Once paperwork is completed, you’ll be transferred to the ScubaPro boat for a 7am departure from Cairns.
Scuba diving on Cairns’ Great Barrier Reef. 4 scuba dives at 2 different reef sites. 3 day dives and 1 night dive. Sunset at sea is always pretty spectacular too!
A light breakfast is served on the boat, on your arrival. The first dive of the trip is before lunch and a dive guide is available for anyone who hasn’t dived in a while. You stay at this dive site for 2 dives, eating lunch in between them. The third dive of the day is at a new site, where you will stay for the night dive. Dinner is served around 6pm. Remember, once you consume alcohol, you are out of the water until the next day. The night dive is at 7.45pm.
Your first – and only – full day at sea. It’s a sleep, dive, eat, repeat kind of experience. Make sure you stay hydrated and drink lots of water.
Early morning scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef, where you often see lots of different fish and marine life. 4 scuba dives today, 3 day dives and 1 night dive. Definitely recommend getting up for the sunrise and don’t miss the sunset on the top deck.
Diving before breakfast, yes you will. It’s a 7am wake up call for diving and breakfast is served afterwards, at 9am. The boat then moves to another dive site, for the second dive of the day, with lunch served afterwards at 12.45pm. An afternoon dive around 3.15pm with dinner from 5.45pm. The night dive is at 7.30pm.
Last day at the reef. All scuba diving is completed before lunch, and in the afternoon you return to Cairns, arriving around 4pm. Transfers are provided back to the Pro Dive Cairns Retail Shop and then onwards to accommodation.
Sunrise dive on the Great Barrier Reef. This is an awesome experience! 3 dives today, with the last dive to be completed before 12pm.
It’s a 5.30am wake up call for a 6.30am sunrise dive. It’s your last day on the Great Barrier Reef, so don’t sleep in! Breakfast is served at 7.30am, followed by another dive at 9am and again at 11am. Lunch is served once the diving has been completed and then the boat makes its way back to Cairns. You’ll arrive around 4pm. Optional farewell dinner at a local restaurant on the last night, this is an additional cost to the tour and is pay as you go.
Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trips go to the outer Great Barrier Reef, off Cairns. They have 19 dive sites to choose from, located across 4 different reefs. The reefs are Milln, Thetford, Flynn and Pellowe. These reefs are suitable for scuba divers of all experience levels, from Open Water and up. The exact locations you will go to on your Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip, is dependent on the weather and tides at the time of travel. They will always pick the best sites to maximise your in-water experience, pending conditions. The Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trips do not go to the Ribbon Reefs or Osprey Reef.
Pro Dive Cairns is a dive boat. Their reef sites are chosen to meet the needs of certified scuba divers, and dive students. That being said, non-diving companions are welcome to travel with Pro Dive Cairns and you can snorkel from the boat, with all equipment provided and included.
No and yes. Pro Dive Cairns is a PADI certified dive centre and provides a range of dive courses, from the Open Water certification to Advanced and professional development courses. The students participating in these courses will be on the Pro Dive Carins liveaboard dive trip, so some might not be certified at the beginning of the trip. If you are booking as a non-student, then yes – you will need to be a certified diver and proof of this will need to be shown. You cannot do introductory diving on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip.
The diving on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip is good. All of the sites have been selected to suit the needs of scuba divers and are suitable for anyone with Open Water certification and above. Max depth is usually around 25m. All of the Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive sites are on the outer Great Barrier Reef, on some of Cairns’ best reef locations. All equipment is included in the tour price.
You can do up to 11 dives on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip, 9 day dives and 2 night dives. These dives are completed over 3 days and 2 nights. You do not have to participate in all of the dives, but there is no discount provided for dives not completed. All diving equipment is provided and included in the tour price.
No and yes. If you are a student diver, participating in a Pro Dive Cairns PADI dive course, then your diving will be guided. If you are not, then ‘no’ the diving is not guided – except for 1 orientation dive at the start of the trip and 1 night dive.
Yes, you should be able to swim in open water to go on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip. The ScubaPro boats go to the outer Great Barrier Reef. All reef experiences are conducted in the water. There is no pontoon or island, glass bottom boat or semi submersible, so the only way to ‘see the reef’ is get in the water.
‘Yes’ the Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip is suitable for families, as long as your children can dive and/or are confident snorkelers, with some notes as follows. The cabins take a maximum of 2 guests, so your family will be in separate cabins. The boat is a dive boat, so the crew are focused on meeting the needs of divers. No child minding service is provided. There are not usually too many families on the Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trips.
The food on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip is prepared fresh each meal and day. It is served buffet style, with lots of salads and breads available. Please note the food is prepared by cooks, not chefs and so some dietary requirements may be difficult to cater too. If you have dietary intolerances or allergies, these should be discussed prior to travel.
There will be a maximum of 32 guests on a Pro Dive Cairns liveaboard dive trip, with 6 crew. Guests are accommodated in cabins with double beds and bunk beds. All cabins are air conditioned.
