Camping time! Far North Queensland has so many stunning places to go camping, and our Cairns camper trailer hire lets you make the most of your trip into the wilderness, in comfort and style. Bonus, our forward fold camper is relatively light to tow, which means you don’t need a 4WD to take this one on your next adventure. What’s it got? Everything you need, including a dual density Queen sized foam mattress and an internal space that can be used as lounge with folding table and bench seating, or transformed into a kids’ sleeping area with a double foam mattress. All ‘windows’ have screens and full-block out and there’s an annex for shade. The slide out stainless-steel kitchen has a multi-burner stove with sink and tap, there’s a 60L fridge / freezer and a 100L underfloor water tank. Even though you don’t need a 4WD to tow this one, it does offer superior off-road capabilities with high clearance, paired with light tow weight and tough fully welded and baked enamel exterior, which means you can hire it for a Trip to the Tip. See our listing on Camplify with easy rental terms.
Your outdoor adventure starts here and now, with our Cairns camper trailer hire. This one is quick to set up and we’ve added all the extras in our hire package, to make your trip nice and easy. We’re talking linen and pillows, outdoor mat, camping chairs and table, and the option of a marquee to add additional sun protection and/or be used instead of the annex. Our Telegraph Lite Camper has the tick of approval for easy towing and all terrain access, it’s also pet friendly so you can take your fur baby with you.
Our Cairns camper trailer hire is ready to go. As well as being lightweight to tow, our Telegraph camper trailer is pretty ‘short’ when set-up (measuring around 4m in length) which means you can easily access all sites, with comfort and space. It came as standard with a lithium battery and solar panel, but we upped the ante by installing a 240 volt input and 30 amp battery charger, which means you can plug it in and keep your drinks frosty at powered sites. But if you are headed off-grid, the bases are still covered for cool drinks as the solar panel will charge the battery during the day, and if you are conservative with your energy consumption, you will be power independent. It’s quick to set up too, taking just 20 minutes without the annex.
Towing a camper requires experience and the right tow vehicle. You might not be aware that there are weight considerations regarding legal towing. Our caravan weighs around 1,200kg, so your vehicle must have a minimum braked towing capacity of 1,500kg. If it does not, then you will not be able to tow the camper safely or legally. It is also great if your vehicle has an electric brake controller such as a REDARC Tow-Pro Elite, but this would be a luxury on many SUV’s and large sedans, if you don’t, we can hire you a portable brake controller that works via a phone app. This will allow you to tow the van without a fitted brake controller. Also, for your safety and the safety of the camper, we do require you to have some prior towing experience, be it other caravans, boats, horse trailers and more. If do you not have any towing experience, we can deliver the caravan to your destination.
We know not everyone wants to tow, which is why we are happy to deliver the camper trailer to your preferred destination (within a 200km radius of our home base at Freshwater, Cairns). If we’re doing a delivery service, we’ll ensure we arrive before you and have everything set up and ready to go when you are. This is particularly beneficial for those who are hiring the camper trailer to camp with friends, but don’t have their own rig and don’t want to take a masterclass in camp set-up just to enjoy the experience. Some of the delivery destinations for our Cairns camper trailer hire include local caravan parks at Cairns and the beaches, and campsites across the Tablelands and Cassowary Coast.
Our Cairns camper trailer is suitable for solo adventurers, couples, and families with young/er children. The main bed is Queen sized and has a dual density foam mattress, which is so comfortable (and so much better than a tent). The internal lounge has a folding table and bench-style seating, but it can be converted to another sleeping area, with a double foam mattress. Please note: Setting up the camper trailer is not physically demanding, but you will need a certain degree of fitness and flexibility to extend the interior poles. Access to the camper trailer is via a short set of stairs, so you will need mobility.
We are based in Cairns, which puts you front and centre to some pretty epic camping destinations and adventures. We’re talking beachfront camps, lakeside retreats, rainforest and bush camping, western exploration across the Gulf Savannah or up to Australia’s most northern point, Pajinka – Cape York Peninsula. Please note you do not need a 4WD to tow our camper trailer, however you will need a 4WD for any Cape York trips. For your peace of mind, our camper trailer was designed and developed for offroad adventures and is covered with insurance for this type of travel. Please note we do suggest having some prior camping experience before embarking to remote destinations. We will require details of your travel plans at the time of booking.
The most popular time of year for our Cairns camper trailer hire is between late April and late October. That’s when the evenings become cooler up here, the days are warm but not hot and the coastal showers of summer have mostly disappeared. If we wanted to put a calendar date on it – the Easter long weekend and first block of school holidays is when everyone starts to think about camping, and we are no exception. So, if you want to travel with our Cairns camper trailer hire during school holidays, or use it to attend any outback festivals and events, make sure you plan ahead and book early to avoid disappointment. Same story with campsites and camping grounds, lots of them are seasonal, particularly out west and up north, so plan ahead and book those early too.
Pet Friendly? Yes we are, and in fact our camping adventures commenced when we welcomed our border collie to the family. He loves going on trips as much as we do, and we want others to be able to experience the joy of holidays with their pooch. The internal area has a door, which ensures your pet is safe and secure at night (but please don’t leave them unattended in the trailer). Keep in mind not all destinations are pet friendly, especially National Parks, so you will need to take that into consideration when planning your trip. As Tropical Trailblazers with our Telegraph camper trailer you can go to powered and unpowered sites, as it has an off-grid capable battery system with solar panel. As above if you are uncomfortable with towing the trailer, we can deliver it and set it up for you. Terms and conditions apply and there’s a minimum 3 night hire, check the listing on Camplify for more information.
Our Austrack Telegraph Camper Trailer takes camping up a notch and is so much more comfortable than sleeping in a swag or tent. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but there’s something to be said for elevation and dual density foam mattresses, slide-out kitchens and fridge/freezers. It’s nice and compact, utilizing every inch of interior space to provide comfortable sleeping and relaxing. Set-up is easy and takes around 20 minutes, from parking to having the camper trailer ready for use. Please note for outdoor shade, there are two options for you to choose from. We have a canvas annex roof which zips on to the camper trailer, there is a little bit of time involved in setting this up properly, so you should allow an additional 40 minutes for this. If you want quick and easy, then we have a portable marquee which you can position outside the camper trailer. This takes about 10 minutes to set up. We have included photos of both options, so you can see what we’re talking about.
What sort of vehicle can tow our Cairns camper trailer hire? Everything from a Commodore to a Subaru Outback, Toyota Camry and Rav 4, Nissan XTrail and any 4×4. This lean machine comes with everything needed for comfortable camping, including linen and pillows. The 60L fridge / freezer, slide out stainless steel kitchen with cutlery and basic utensils, including tongs, frying pan, camp kettle and pots. There’s a cutting board, plates, bowls and enamel mugs, plastic cups and all the essentials, instant coffee, oil, salt and pepper, paper towels and more. To maximise your outdoor living as Tropical Trailblazers, we’ve also got an outdoor camping mat, camping chairs and table.
Low Season Rates | $110 per day |
Hight Season (School Holidays, Public Holidays) | $130 per day |
Insurance | $10 - $35 per day |
If your towing vehicle does not have an Electronic Brake Controller installed, we can rent you a portable unit. The camper is equipped with a McHitch towing coupling – we will provide the tongue to be fitted to your vehicle. You must have some towing experience in order to tow this camper, we will not hire the camper to people with no towing experience.
All our bookings are processed on Camplify. We’ve made it a bit easier for you by synchronising availability on this website. It’s go time for Tropical Trailblazers looking for adventure, and wanting to spend some quality time with million star nights, campfires and getting into nature. Our Cairns camper trailer hire is a versatile machine which is just as home on the Peninsula Developmental Road, as it is being parked up in a caravan site by the beach. We’ve done a few quick trips to the Tablelands and Gulf Savanah and it’s ready to hit the road on an adventure with you. There’s lots of places you might like to visit and we’ll jot down some of our favourites below to get the wheels turning. If you want to put yourself in these pictures, or have your own destination in mind, then send us an enquiry – see our Camplify listing – or email us at richard@ilovecairns.com.au
Far North Queensland boasts an array of exceptional caravan parks, with popular destinations like BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Cairns Coconut Resort in Woree and BIG4 Port Douglas Glengarry Holiday Park. These family-friendly parks offer a wealth of activities to keep everyone entertained. For a coastal escape, NRMA Palm Cove Holiday Park is a great choice, allowing you to indulge in camping, fishing and beach and jetty walks (pictured here), with cafes and restaurants. Ellis Beach is Cairns’ most northern beach and has a very chilled out vibe with absolute beachfront sites available (book well in advance for these). Finally for a rainforest camping ground, check out Cairns Crystal Cascades Holiday Park, which provides a refreshing haven for safe swimming.
Lake Tinaroo holds a special place as a favourite camping destination near Cairns, with most sites nestled within the Danbulla National Park and State Forest. The National Park campgrounds are all unpowered sites and include, but are not limited to the Playpus, Downfall (pictured here), Kauri Creek and Fong On Bay campgrounds. As they are in a National Park, pets are not allowed. Amenities are limited. During peak periods like public holidays and school holidays, booking in advance is advisable. However, if you’re keen to bring your furry friend camping at Lake Tinaroo, both Genazzano Retreat and Lake Tinaroo Holiday Park are pet-friendly.
Etty Bay offers a beachside camping experience, with the added bonus and high chances of seeing a Southern Cassowary. In fact, Etty Bay is one of the few places where encountering these ancient birds on the beach is a regular occurrence. The Etty Bay campground is conveniently located near the beachfront, but with rainforest views also. This is not pet friendly. If you are looking for beachfront vibes with your pooch, then check out the range of camping grounds in the Mission Beach area (pictured here).
Innot Hot Springs holds a special place in our hearts, as it was the first place we ever took our camper trailer. It’s also the closest thermal springs to Cairns (around a two hour drive) and has six rejuvenating thermal pools where you can swim, relax and restore your senses. Stress and fatigue effortlessly melt away as you soak in the warm waters. You can also head down to Nettle Creek, the source of the thermal waters. The Innot Hot Springs Caravan and Leisure Park has shaded campsites and you can choose powered or unpowered sites (powered sites are recommended for added convenience). This is somewhat of a locals spot and has been attracting visitors to its warm thermal waters for over 100 years.
If you head further west into the Gulf Savannah, there is another thermal springs awaiting your discovery at Talaroo Hot Springs. Here a local Indigenous guide will take you on a guided tour of the hot springs which ends with swimming in the thermal pool. There is also the option to book a private session at one of the soaking pools. Talaroo is a relatively new park boasting excellent facilities including a saltwater swimming pool, small shop and takeaway. It’s also adjacent to the Einasleigh River and is an ideal spot to bring our Cairns camper trailer hire. No 4WD required.
Chillagoe is around 140km from Mareeba, but you’ll feel you are thousands of kilometers away from Cairns. This place has a rich history. The limestone caves and karts are a remanent from when this area used to be an inland sea. You can explore them on guided tours, which can be booked at The Hub. The smelter ruins is the site of one of Australia’s worst mining disasters and you can learn more about this on interpretive signage. Beyond the tours and attractions, there is a distinctly outback feel to Chillagoe where you can’t help but ease into a relaxed pace perfect for adventures in our Cairns camper trailer hire.
Lots of people describe this as being an oasis in the outback and we couldn’t agree more, we love Cobbold Gorge. You can definitely take our Cairns camper trailer out here you we strongly recommend getting a powered ensuite site, which includes your own private toilet and shower. These sites are a bit removed from the rest of the camping ground and are nice and quite with bush views. Other than taking a tour to Cobbold Gorge, check out our list of the many Things You Can Do At Cobbold Gorge. Side note make sure you check out fossicking for agates at nearby Agate Creek, during your stay. Cobbold Village is around a 6 hour drive from Cairns and you do not need a 4WD to get there.
The Dinosaur Trail includes the small outback town of Winton, which is waiting to give you a big serve of country hospitality. Winton is around a 10 hour drive from Cairns and they describe themselves as being ‘way out west’ and we can tell you, this is small town tourism done right and on steroids. Highlights include the Australian Age of Dinosaurs experience and the stampede at Lark Quarry. The local pubs are awesome, we even saw a live sheep herding demonstration in the beer garden over lunch (and for free) and the bakery is outstanding! We highly recommend the Winton Wanderers Caravan Park, it is slightly out of town but with new drive through sites and modern amenities – it’s just the place for night sky views.
You don’t need to go to Fraser Island to experience sand and beach driving, you can do it much closer to home at a place called Elim Beach. Where is it? It’s about 1.5 hours past Cooktown, via Hopevale. What is it? A seriously stunning destination where you can climb coloured sand dunes, run down sand blows, 4WD on inland tracks to Cape Bedford for more beach and headland driving. You can definitely take our Cairns camper trailer hire out here, make sure you book ahead to stay at Elim Beach Camping (also known as Eddie’s Camp) which has unpowered sites and basic amenities, but one amazing location. Make sure you get there early to nab yourself one of the few, absolute beachfront sites.
Bucket list trip. Cairns to Pajinka, also know as the Tip of Australia, yes you can with our Cairns camper trailer hire! We’ve done this trip before we had the camper trailer or the caravan, and it was epic. We’re in the planning staged to do it again with our own rig and can’t wait to get on that long red road. There’s lots of great places to camp – make sure you check out Lakefield National Park and Chilli Beach, a stop at Weipa is a must, Fruit Bat and Elliot Falls and finally pull into Punsand Bay Cape York Camping for some beachfront camping at the top end of Australia.
If you’ve towed before, you’ll find handling this compact camper a breeze. We specifically included it in our fleet for its lightweight design. However, some prior towing experience is still necessary for both your safety and the preservation of the camper. I personally enjoy towing this camper because it’s much less demanding than a full-sized caravan.
Yes and no. Unlike caravans, this camper trailer does not weigh very much, which means in regard to legal requirements in towing capacity, there is a lot more flexibility in what can tow this one. In fact, pretty much most larger conventional vehicles will be able to safely tow our Cairns camper trailer for hire; we’re talking Commodores, Subaru Outbacks, Toyota Camrys and Rav 4s, Nissan XTrails and any 4×4. We do recommend having an Electronic Brake Controller, but if you don’t have one, we have a portable one we can rent to you that works via an App.
The tare weight is 1,020kg and gross trailer mass is 1,500kg. It’s 4.5m long when open.
The camper is equipped with a McHitch towing coupling – we will provide the tongue to be fitted to your vehicle.
If your towing vehicle does not have an Electronic Brake Controller installed, we can rent you a portable unit.
Our Cairns camper trailer for hire can be taken to most destinations, including the all-important bucket trip list to ‘The Tip’. It’s built tough, has high clearance and can go offroad, but it’s also great for beachfront and lakeside camping. So the camper trailer is extremely flexible and versatile, with excellent rental terms. If you wanted to discuss a particular destination, please contact Richard on 0410 510 214 or email richard@ilovecairns.com.au
No – the minimum hire term is 2 nights / 3 days.
The ‘standard’ configuration for the camper trailer is a Queen sized bed with lounge and seating. However, if you had a young/er family, then it can fit more people, as the lounge area can be converted to a comfortable double bed with foam mattress. If you had a larger / older family, you can always take some swags for older children.
Pillows, Sheets, Coverlets. Outdoor Mat, Camping Table and 3 x Camping Chairs. 4 x Stainless Steel Plates, 4 x Breakfast Bowls, 4 x Coffee Cups, 4 x Cocktail Glasses (plastic), Knives, Forks and Spoons, Cutting Board & Knife, Tongs, Frying Pan, Camp Kettle and Pots. Salt, Pepper, Oil, Instant Coffee, Dishwashing Detergent, Paper Towels, Sandwich Bags and Garbage Bags.
Your clothes, your towels, food and drinks.
There is an option where we can deliver it to any location within a 200km radius of Cairns, but that all depends on our availability, your hire term and where you are going. Contact us if you wanted to discuss any particular destinations by calling Richard on 0410 510 214 or email richard@ilovecairns.com.au
Yes there are. You can charge mobiles, tablets and camera batteries, at points located in the lounge room space. Happy days.
Unpowered sites are OK as it has an off-grid capable battery system with solar power. Obviously the battery power / duration would be limited pending where you parked.
